As a child I grew up getting excited about the idea of visiting my Grandmother. She always baked some yummy things like her crust less milk-tart. I just loved being with my Grandmother enjoying baking and cooking. Her gentleness and love for food just got me hooked. I always wanted to be like my Grandmother. She is still alive and 88 years strong and still we can talk about recipes and home remedies and share our love for baking and cooking.
This recipe of hers was also my great grandmother’s recipe and I love making it. I have always thought of this recipe as foolproof but I must warn you, follow the method carefully as I had a friend who proved that it isn’t that easy and when it flops it really flops.
Enjoy baking this one. I will soon post another milk-tart recipe with a crust which is also beautiful and another lovely lady gave me that one. Watch this space…..
Ingredients
- 4 cups Milk, at room temperature
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 1 cup Plain flour
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tbs Butter
- 3 Eggs
- 1 cups Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla essence
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
- Separate the whites from the yolks. Beat the whites until stiff peaks form and set aside.
- Melt the butter and add it to the sugar, egg yolks and vanilla in a large bowl and beat until light and creamy. About 2 minutes.
- Add the flour, baking powder and salt and mix through then add the milk slowly. mix for 2 minutes.
- Lastly add the stiff egg whites stir through and make sure it is light and airy.
- Pour in a well buttered oven dish and bake for 50 minutes in a preheated oven. Your milk-tart will still be a bit wobbly. So switch your oven off and leave the door a bit open. Let the milk-tart cool in the oven. Enjoy at room temperature.
Making family recipes is so great especially when your family is far from you. That brings them closer to your heart and with a good cup of coffee all will be well.
