French Toast my father-in-law’s way

Everyone has their own way of making french toast or eggy bread and this version is how my father-in-law makes it. We all order this for a breakfast when we visit them and I love watching him preparing and making the french toast and seeing all the love being added to each one he makes. Everyone of us adds different toppings to our bread. My favourite is to add a bit of golden syrup and then some cheese and crispy bacon but that is just me. Sweet and salty all the way with a nice fruit salad and plain yoghurt on the side to balance it all out. This is a breakfast for the win. Enjoy this version of our family’s take on french toast!

Ingredients

  • 2 Thick Slices Bread ( I like Brioche bread or a good white bread)
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • 2tbs Oil

Method

  1. Beat the eggs, milk, salt and pepper in a deep dish.
  2. Place the slices in the egg mix and let it soak for about 5 minutes. I keep turning it every now and again and poke then with a fork to make sure the egg mix goes in.
  3. Heat the oil on medium heat and place the bread in the pan and fry it until brown. Then turn on other side and fry until brown. The bread will puff up a bit and that is what you want.
  4. Place it on a paper towel while you fry the next slice.
  5. Serve with your favourite toppings and a good cup of coffee or Juice.
